Basic Computer Skills Class : Instructor-led program focusing on improving basic computer skills: typing, word processing, internet, e-mail, etc.

Basic Computer Skills Lab : Self-paced instructional program focusing on improving computer skills: typing, word processing, internet, e-mail, etc. In contrast with Open Computer Lab (see below) a basic computer skills lab program has a set curriculum with defined learning objectives.

Basic Computer Skills Tutoring : One-to-one tutoring focusing on improving basic computer skills: typing, word processing, internet, e-mail, etc.

Citizenship Classes—Bilingual : Classes taught in English and at least one other language, focusing on English and civics preparation in order to pass the naturalization interview and examination.

Citizenship Classes—English Only : Classes taught in English only, focusing on English and civics preparation in order to pass the naturalization interview and examination.

Citizenship Classes—Other Language Only : Classes taught only in a language other than English, focusing on English and civics preparation in order to pass the naturalization interview and examination.

Citizenship Tutoring : One-to-one or small group instruction focusing on English and civics preparation in order to pass the naturalization interview and examination.

Distance Learning : Takes place when a teacher and learner are separated by physical distance. Technology (e.g., voice, video, data or print) often combined with face-to-face instruction is used to bridge the instructional gap.

ESL Classes : Classroom instruction in English as a Second Language—speaking, listening, reading and writing. For learners whose native language is not English.

ESL Computer Lab : Computer used as an instructional tool, focusing on English as a Second Language skills.

ESL Tutoring : One-to-one or small group instruction in English as a Second Language—speaking, listening, reading and writing. For learners whose native language is not English.

External Diploma Program : Performance-based program for adults wishing to demonstrate competencies and earn an actual high school diploma.

Family Literacy : Program for adults and children that features instruction for adults in literacy and parenting as well as educational/developmental services for children.

Family Literacy ESL : Program for adults and children that features instruction for adults in English as a Second Language and parenting as well as educational/developmental services for children.

GED Classes : Classroom instruction in preparation for the General Educational Development certificate. Focuses on the skills necessary to pass the 5 tests: Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Science.

GED Computer Lab : Computer used as an instructional tool, focusing on preparation for the General Educational Development certificate (Math, Reading , Writing, Social Studies, and Science).

GED Test Site : Testing location for the General Educational Development certificate. Set of 5 tests: Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Science.

GED Tutoring : One-to-one or small group instruction in preparation for the General Educational Development certificate. Focuses on the skills necessary to pass the 5 tests: Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Science.

Job Readiness ESL : Designed to provide adults with the English as a Second Language skills needed to be successful on the job.

Job Readiness Literacy : Designed to provide adults with the literacy skills needed to be successful on the job.

Literacy Skills Classes : Classes focusing on reading and writing skills.

Literacy Skills Computer Lab : Computer used as an instructional tool, focusing on reading and writing skills.

Literacy Skills Tutoring : One-to-one or small group instruction focusing on reading and writing skills.

Math Classes : Classroom instruction focusing on either academic math (generally through algebra) or "real life" math.

Math Computer Lab : Computer used as an instructional tool, focusing on either academic math (generally through algebra) or "real life" math.

Math Tutoring : One-to-one or small group instruction focusing on either academic math (generally through algebra) or "real life" math.

Open Computer Lab : Unstructured or lightly-structured drop-in time for learners focusing on improving computer skills.

Talk Time : Group discussions focusing on improving conversation skills in English.

Workplace ESL : Designed to improve the English as a Second Language skills of employees. The program is located at the job site and coordinated with the employer.

Workplace Literacy : Designed to improve the literacy skills of employees. The program is located at the job site and coordinated with the employer.

 

Features

Childcare: 0-2 : Provides childcare for children from birth to 2 while parents are taking part in an adult literacy service at the program.

Childcare: 3 and up : Provides childcare for children ages 3 and older while parents are taking part in an adult literacy service at the program.

Intake: CASAS: Uses the CASAS test as part of the intake process with students.

Intake: Fixed Enrollment: Has a fixed schedule of times when new students can begin taking part in program services.

Intake: Open Enrollment: Allows new students to begin taking part in program services at any time.

Fees: None: Charges no fee for participation in the program as a student or volunteer.

Fees: Minimal: Charges a minimal fee (less than $50) for participation in the program as a student or volunteer.

Other: Citizenship Application Assistance: Helps residents complete the citizenship application paperwork and process.

Other: Distance Learning: Offers some instruction through the internet, via satellite, or using other technology that permits students either to learn from home or at a location closer to home.

Other: Handicapped Accessible: Main site for program services is handicapped accessible.

Other: Learning Disabilities Screening: Provides screening (not diagnosis) for learning disabilities for students.

Other: Translation: Has bilingual staff who can translate for students during the program intake process.

Schedule: Weekdays Daytime: Offers classes or tutoring some weekdays from Monday through Friday during the day.

Schedule: Weekdays Evening: Offers classes or tutoring some weekdays from Monday through Friday during the evening.

Schedule: Weekends: Offers classes or tutoring on Saturday or Sunday.

Schedule: Summer: Offers classes or tutoring during the summer.

Transportation: On Bus Line: Main location for offering services is located on a bus line.

Transportation: Provided: Provides transportation to and from the program is provided.
